A project organized by the Espace Européen Gutenberg in partnership with the International Gutenberg Society of Mainz as part of Europe Day.

As part of the commemorative year “625 Years of Gutenberg,” here is the largest page ever printed from the first page of Gutenberg’s Gospel of St. John. It was produced using letterpress printing with a computer-engraved wooden plate. It was unveiled on April 26th, 2025, during a spectacular printing event in Mainz.

Originally presented at the opening ceremony of Rhineland-Palatinate’s Cultural Summer, this giant page is fully in line with efforts to promote European cultural heritage. Its display in Strasbourg Cathedral carries strong symbolic significance!

The page measures 5 x 7.20 meters. The Gutenberg Bible is not only the first book printed in Europe using movable type, but it is also considered one of the most beautiful. It will be on display in Strasbourg from May 9th to August 31st, 2026, at Strasbourg Cathedral as part of the Europe Day celebrations. Be sure to go see it!
